The Conscious Brunch-Goer [Part II]

13 MAR 2019

This is Part II in our guide for conscious brunch-goers. Read Part I here.

We’ve made it even easier for our customers to be sustainable, by moving towards a completely zero-plastic store – we’re not quite there yet but very close. Get your flat white in one of our biodegradable take-away cups. For all the ice-latte lovers, all of our cold beverages come in biodegradable corn starch bio-plastic.

We know that the way to effect change is by taking the lead and ensuring that we offer our customers solutions that are least damaging to the environment without compromising quality. The best thing about all this? We actually prefer the designs that are biodegradable and they were very similar in price to our last supplier, so there’s no excuse for coffee shops, no matter their size, to make the right choice. Customers can make the difference by putting pressure on their favourite coffee shop’s to take on the responsibility, or take their money to somewhere that does.

A move towards conscious consumption

We want to invite you to join us in this move towards more conscious consumption.

Here are some simple steps that you can take to reduce your environmental impact without skipping out on brunch.

BYO Cup and Straw

With so many options today, it may seem like a no-brainer, but with more than 16 billion disposable cups being used each year, one of the most simple but effective things you can do to be greener is bringing your own cup. Prefer a cold press? Don’t forget to bring a reusable straw!

Products we love:

Miir Keep Cups

Live Zero Stainless Steel Straws

Insulated Water Bottles

Customers can make the difference by putting pressure on their favourite coffee shop's to take on the responsibility, or take their money to somewhere that does.

Dairy-Free Alternatives

Take your coffee white, but want to reduce your dairy intake? As our taste for quality coffee becomes more refined, companies are popping up all over the globe, offering milk alternatives that keep your coffee tasting silky smooth without the impact.

Products we love:

Oatly oat milk

Bonsoy soy milk

The next time you’re visiting, try our ‘dirty’ on oat milk. Trust me, you’ll love it.

Plant-based Cutlery

Bamboo is a versatile and light-weight material, that won’t absorb flavour, so it’s perfect for chowing down on our foodie-favourite vegan Buddha Bowl. Reusing your cutlery will help to reduce the some 40 billion plastic utensils that are produced every year.

Products we love:

Ever-eco Bamboo Cutlery Set

To-Go Ware Bamboo Cutlery Set

Cornstarch-based Cutlery

It’s simple steps like this, done over and over again, by more and more people that leads to a more sustainable cafe culture.

As Hong Kong takes on the tasks of tackling its plastic problem, we hope to see more businesses moving towards a zero plastic store. This is a joint effort, that takes many hands to make real changes.
