Guide to the Best of Gough Street

Formerly the epicentre of Hong Kong’s printing press scene, Gough Street has arguably become one of the trendiest destinations for coffee aficionados and fashionistas alike. Alongside the flurry of print-related activity, workers have gathered on Gough St to eat, drink and socialise since the early 20th century. Today, locals and tourists fill the footpaths and sides streets, whether they’re lining up to get a taste of Kau Kee’s 40+ year perfected beef brisket noodle soup, getting the perfect insta-shot of some of Hong Kong’s street art), or of course, sipping on a single-origin cold brew from our NOC store, Gough Street has got it all.

To celebrate our vibrant neighbourhood, we’re highlighting some of our favourite things to see and do, and places to eat and drink.

WHERE TO EAT AND DRINK

BEDU

Restaurants have come and gone, serving up different cuisines and flavours, all vying to take the top spot for Gough Street’s hottest eatery. Bedu is the latest to throw their hat into the ring for the title, serving up a contemporary approach to Middle-Eastern cuisine (the restaurant’s name is taken from the Bedouin nomadic tribe who travelled from Africa to the Middle-East).

With their home-style cooking and paired downed aesthetic, we think the team behind Bedu is set to rival even the most established restaurants in the neighbourhood.

For a vegetarian delight, we recommend the charred broccoli, hummus, and their special grilled persimmon fattoush salad. And you can’t leave without devouring their dessert dish of set yoghurt, with honeycomb and orange blossom.

NOC Coffee Co. – Gough

We’d be remiss to not include our Gough St store.

To launch our second location, we wanted to design something truly unique. Framed by a minimalist glass facade, we created a sophisticated and down-played aesthetic to contrast the more dramatic exteriors found along Gough St.

Crafting the perfect pour, Head Barista, JJ, and her team, serve up an all-day brunch and freshly brewed coffee. Upstairs, a large communal table acts as a refuge for tourists and locals who want to take a break from the outside bustle.

The Gough team recommends our nutritious, vegan Buddha Bowl, with a flat white.

PLACES TO VISIT

Man Mo Temple
Before local students relied on Google’s powerful search algorithm to get through finals week, you might have found them worshipping at the altar of “Man”, the God of Literature, and “Mo”, the God of War. Established in 1847 as a tribute to these two judicious gods, Man Mo Temple continues today as a place of worship, and a favourite amongst tourists who flock to admire the temple’s intricate carvings and to offer their respects in the form of a burning incense coil.

Petit Bazaar

Purveyors of fine european exports since opening in 2010, Petit Bazaar has been the go-to store for locals to keep their kids stylish and their homes decorated. With the same dedication to curation, the team at Petit Bazaar stock brands such as Oeuf, Lorena Canals and Bobo Choses.
